Clinical Parkinson Research Platform

Clinical Parkinson Research Platform is a research platform at Skåne University hospital that facilitates clinical research projects related to Parkinson’s disease and related movement disorders at Lund University and Skåne University hospital. Clinical Parkinson Research Platform is part of the Swedish Parkinson Academy (SPA) and is located at the Wigert building (ground level; Remissgatan 4, Skåne University hospital, Lund), with access to 9 office rooms and 4 rooms for clinical examinations. The research platform consists of research coordinators, trained research nurses, assistant nurses and medical doctors. The research platform and SPA is well equipped concerning know-how and equipment for clinical and translational research related to Parkinson’s disease and related movement disorders (commercial as well as non-commercial studies). A large number of academic and commercial studies have been completed or are ongoing. Phase I-IV studies have been conducted; the research platform has capacity for all steps in studies, including protocol development, applications to EC and the European CTIS system, performance of the studies, statistical evaluation and publication.

Twice a year, researchers (PIs) can apply for using research nurses/assistant nurses and research coordinators for the periods January to June and July to December, respectively. Applications are sent to research coordinator Elisabeth Jirström (Elisabeth [dot] Jirstrom [dot] Hiersemann [at] skane [dot] se (Elisabeth[dot]Jirstrom[dot]Hiersemann[at]skane[dot]se)). PIs pay 50% of the salary costs in case of non-commercial studies and 100% in case of commercial or EU-financed studies.

Clinical Parkinson Research Platform receives financial support from MultiPark for our research nurses, medical doctors and research coordinators. SPA is also funded by external research grants, so far mostly by Olle Engkvist foundation.
