Working groups – renovation in progress

The cover page of the strategic document.

The PI retreat in January resulted in a groundbreaking decision: MultiPark’s working groups should be replaced by a more dynamic organization including both "special interest groups” and “task force groups”. Here is what will happen.

Discussing the MultiPark seven translational working groups was an important point in the agenda of the PI member retreat in January. Already while planning for the meeting, the management flagged a need for an inclusive discussion on this matter with all MultiPark senior researchers.

“The strategic goals of our research environment change over time, and it was time to revise the seven translational working groups that had been in place for eight years. As the coordinator of MultiPark, I believe it is essential to listen to what all our research group leaders have to say. An open discussion was needed before taking any decisions,” says Angela Cenci Nilsson.

During the PI meeting, a majority of the senior researchers expressed the opinion that the static working groups should be replaced by a more flexible structure to facilitate upcoming  research initiatives to grow within our environment. The discussions resulted in a suggestion to develop a complementary organization including both special interest groups and task force groups. This suggestion was ratified by the Board at their meeting of February 9.

A quick guide to the upcoming groups

Special interest groups:

These groups will be appointed via a “bottom-up” approach. A survey will be sent out to all senior members asking them to indicate whether they are interested in coordinating the formation of a special interest group during Spring 2022. The special interest groups should pursue one or more of the specific goals stated in MultiPark’s strategic plan, and they will have to be open to admitting any senior researcher who wishes to be included. Groups will be self-organized and will themselves decide when they wish to meet and what they wish to discuss.

Task force groups:

The task force groups will provide a complement to the special interest groups. They will be appointed by a “top-down” approach when there is a need to develop certain key areas that are not yet well-attended within MultiPark. Their task may consist in establishing a technical approach and conducting related educational activities. The number of these task force groups will be limited, and their mandate should be for a 2-year period.
